EA Showcase | Jeanine Cannon

As another month goes by, we’re thrilled to showcase the lovely Jeanine Cannon of Communities@Work, Canberra. We continue to interview EAs from our own home town, Canberra. Our goal is to raise the profile of EAs with a view to build awareness of the Executive Assistant role by sharing the diversity that the role entails, after all, it’s not about the destination as you know, it’s all about the journey!

Enjoy and please share, share and share in support of your peers!

If you know an EA or would like to contribute and share a little about yourself, please get in touch as we’d love to hear from you.

Jeanine Cannon

Name your current role?
Executive Assistant to the CEO, Communities@Work

Do you remember the first day you became an EA?
It was December 2015, and even though I had been working in executive areas and administration since 2007 it was a big day.

What would you consider to be the most rewarding part of your position as an EA?
Being part of an amazing executive team that are all here for the right reasons and to see the work we are doing making a difference across all areas of the organisation.

What was a role that you have owned or an experience you have had, that helped shaped your success in your current position?
When I first started work in Melbourne back in 1982, customer service was a big part of the job. Having good customer service is a value that you can take anywhere and use anytime. This has allowed me to become the person I am today who is open, approachable and friendly to all people I have interactions with. I have also worked in different Not for Profit Organisation’s in Canberra since 2005 doing all sorts of roles, including support worker, database management, front of house administration, back office administration, meeting clients face to face, transport bookings and much more. This has allowed me to gain a greater understanding of how the Not for Profit sector works and I am then able to put all the knowledge gained in to my role as an EA.

What are three items you can’t work without?

  1. My Diary
  2. Green Tea
  3. A positive work environment
