Administrative Professionals Day – Friday 6 May

A chance to tell all our EA’s how much they’re appreciated.

Administrative Professionals Day?   Um, what’s that? you say. Well, it used to be known as “Secretaries Day”, a formal occasion for recognising and thanking our EAs, PAs, AOs, and EOs for their contribution and support through the year.

The observance probably hasn’t been so widespread in Australia until more recently, but it has gained momentum.  It’s usually celebrated as part of Administrative Professionals Week, around the end of April. And it’s the perfect opportunity to show how much you appreciate your “right hand person” in the office.

The importance of the role of secretaries and office professionals has long been recognised.  In 1942, in fact, the National Secretaries Association was founded to provide a professional network and educational resources for secretarial staff.   Its name was changed in 1998 to the International Association of Administrative Professionals to reflect the large number of varied administrative job titles and acknowledge the advancing role and importance of administrative support staff.

Administrative Professionals Day is typically celebrated by giving these important employees gifts such as cards, flowers or lunches to acknowledge the hard work they do every day.

As our own contribution to Administrative Professionals Week, this year Capital EA and Kim Vella Coaching are running a number of EA Insights Programs which focus on helping EAs develop their planning skills. Capital EA’s long experience in the EA/office professional field has taught us that it’s vital for EAs to keep developing their skills, so that they can continually improve the quality of the support they provide, and derive more satisfaction in their professional life.  Check our website for program dates and details.

We look forward to celebrating Administrative Professionals Day with you on 6 May, and wish all administrative professionals out there a wonderful day!

Keen for promotion but not sure where to begin?

If you’re an executive assistant or an administrative officer wanting to move to a more senior role, or even up to the C-suite, then our EA Insights Program is for you. Successfully supporting the senior echelon of company or departmental executives does take special skills, as well as experience.  Our EA Insights Program is an intensive one-day course designed for public and private sector EAs who want to move to senior levels. It’s also ideal for EAs seeking to transition into the APS.

We’ll provide you with strategies, insights and time-proven tools to help you identify, create or revamp your vision for your career, and develop a plan to help you achieve your goals.
This year, instead of flowers for Administrative Professionals Day, why not ask your manager to support your personal development so you can attend an EA Insights Program? (Or maybe you could ask for both!)
